Fix the forever logging in problem Open wineconfig and go to the tab “Libraries”. Type “dnsapi.dll” in the “New override for library:” box and click the Add button. When added to the list, select “dnsapi (native, builtin)” and click the Edit button. Select “Native (Windows)” and click Ok.

This should fix the problem.

Create a wine prefix and use winetricks to install all the dependencies the game might need. Some games require specific dependencies like d3dcompiler_43 or directshow or others to run correctly. Japanese games especially fall into this category in my experience. However, most games should run with just

dxvk

lav filters (installed manually with wine, not with winetricks)

quartz

wmp11

vcrun2015 or vcrun2017

mf-install (installed manually with a bash script, not winetricks)

Next you just cd into the directory of the game’s exe and type WINEPREFIX=path/to/prefix /path/to/ge-proton/files/bin/wine game.exe
